In 2012 Eldhestar celebrates 25 years of guided tours through the Icelandic nature. 25 years is a great success that we would like to celebrate with you. We have been coming up with many ideas how to honour our anniversary and we are very proud to offer you two special anniversary tours during the summer 2012, both in connection with Landsmót 2012.
"Landsmót hestamanna“ as it is called in Icelandic, is a biannual horse competition, rotational held in the North and in the South of Iceland. 25.6.- 01.07.2012, Landmót takes place in Reykjavik. The countries best horses and riders meet to battle it out in order to find the best breeding and sports horses in the country.
The first Anniversary tour is the "Paradise tour" and takes place from the 22nd of June to the 29th of June and gives you the opportunity to follow the final completions at Landsmot directly after the tour. The Paradise tour that has been in our regular program from 1992 to 2001. The tour will take you along the sea in South Iceland. You will visit magnificent waterfalls such as Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss and ride into the beautiful valley Thórsmörk with all its plants and special rock formations. The ride on the beach between the Reynisdrangar and the cliffs of Dyróley promises to be an unforgettable experience. This trip offers you spectacular views over the South coast of Iceland, all the diversity of the Icelandic nature as well as great riding on beaches, sandbanks and soft grass.
The second Anniversary tour is a new tour that we call "Landmannalaugar from the West“. The tour starts on the 1st of July to the 8th of July. The tour will start at the farm Fellsmuli below Mt. Hekla and take us to Landmannalaugar, a valley in the Icelandic highlands that is best known for its colourful rhyolite mountains, extensive lava fields and the natural hot spring that gave the valley its name. We will ride over highlands alongside Hekla until we reach the lake Hrauneyjarlón. From there we head east towards Dyngjuskarð, a mountain pass with exceptio
nal nature and reach Landmannahellir, where the Icelandic farmers kept their sheep in a cave during the round up before they build a better shed for them. Highlight of the tour is a bath in the warm river at Landmannalaugar.
We hope we could interest you in on of these tours and look forward to celebrating our anniversary with you. Below you find a more detailed day to day description of both tours. We recommend you to book early when you are interested in one of these tours since only a limited number of guest can participate in each tour.
