Last Thursday, April 19th, the Icelandic people celebrated the first day of the summer. Finally the winter is over and the days are already quite long again. However, the weather on this first day of the summer does often not correspond and we have had storm, rain or even snow on that day. This year, we truly had a first summer day. The sun has been shining for the entire week and it actually got quite warm around noon.
We at Eldhestar had another reason to celebrate that day. The municipality of Ölfus awarded us with the Environmental award 2012 for our great work at Vellir. As you can see on the picture, the award is a glass sculpture inspired of the landscape in the municipality with its meadows and mountains, lava and the sea nearby. Candles between the two wave- shaped glass plates epitomise the volcanic origin of the landscape.
The building of our indoor riding arena has proceeded well in the past weeks. The workers finished to put up the roof. Next, the windows will be installed. Here you can see some pictures from the building side. If you are interested to see more form our riding hall, just visit Eldhestar Facebook page.
